Did You Know?

  • Mapperley’s name comes from Thomas Mapurley, a prominent figure in Nottingham during the 14th century. He served as under-sheriff of Nottinghamshire and even held the role of Mayor of Nottingham in the early 1400s.

  • In the late 19th century, Mapperley Hall was built by the Wright family, whose estate played a central role in the development of the area. By the early 20th century, parts of the estate were sold for housing, paving the way for the Mapperley we know today.

  • Mapperley once included large swaths of common land and farmland, which over time developed into today’s residential streets and parks. The area’s development is a testament to Nottingham’s rich heritage.
